Juneau is a city in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dodge County. Juneau is named after its founder, the Metis Paul Juneau, son of Solomon Juneau, founder of Milwaukee.
Juneau is located on Hwy 26, and is less than one hour drive from Milwaukee, Madison and Appleton. Ideally located right in the center of Dodge County, Juneau is the perfect starting point and place to live in Dodge County.
The Wild Goose State Trail runs directly through the city, offering hiking and bicycling. Adjacent to the trail, is the Wild Goose Park. The park has restrooms and primitive camping sites with shower facilities. Stop for refreshments at one of the local convenience stores or a variety of restaurants.
A historical marker is located at 500 Lincoln Dr., across from the Juneau City Park honoring the famous Addie Joss. Addie played for the Cleveland Naps. View the headstone of Paul Juneau, founder of the city of Juneau; in the City Cemetery. One of the original oak trees planted by his Indian friends next to his grave, towers over the historical grave.
Downtown still has many of the original buildings from the 1800's. Still bustling today with quaint unique shops, bowling and restaurants. In front of the Dodge County Administrative Building, located at 127 E. Oak St. in downtown Juneau is a Farmers Market. It is held every Monday, from 3:30 - 7:30 pm, May thru October. Find an assortment of fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, flowers, crafts and homemade items. The building which occupies the entire block, was once the Dodge County Courthouse. Look for the detailed architect designs while visiting the Farmers Market.
A peaceful and quiet bed and breakfast is just outside of the city. Don't forget to visit the Dodge Center Historical Society Museum. Open the first and third Sunday of each month, May thru October from 1 - 4 pm. No admission fee.
The Annual City-Wide Rummage Sale held the second Saturday in August will find bargins and treasures. Rummage Sales are dotted through out the city. One of the local churches hosts a brat fry.
Juneau August Fest, held the last full weekend of August; is the place to be! Music, food, activities, historical city tours, soccer tournament, classic car/truck/bike show on Sunday, contests, petting zoo and more! An event for the whole family. No admission fee.
The Annual "Christmas Past" kick-offs the first weekend in December for a weekend filled with the Christmas Spirit. This fun and old-fashioned event begins on Friday evening with a Holiday parade, and Santa! Santa lights up the city's Christmas tree and a local choir fills the air in music. An "All-You-Can-Eat " Buffet is available following the parade, along with Santa visiting with the children. On Saturday, the local businesses have their Open House with many specials, door prizes and more. Sunday is the library's "Parade of Trees" open house. Stroll the library and view the many trees decorated by local organizations and businesses. Refreshments and entertainment during the event from 1 - 3 pm.
Education
Dodgeland High School is the area's public high school. The school is part of the Dodgeland School District. St. Johns Lutheran School serves students through grade 8.
